Football Jersey Cake

For this Auburn football jersey cake, bake a 9x13 cake using two cake mixes to achieve a thick cake. After it has cooled, place on a cake board approximately 19x14 in size.
About 3" from the top of the 13" side cut in about 1" and then cut down the remainder of the cake. This is to make the sleeve. Do this on the other side of the cake as well. To make the sleeve longer, cut a piece of the cake that was carved away and add it to each sleeve using some icing.
Ice the cake with buttercream icing (recipe to follow) and smooth with a VIVA brand paper towel after it has 'crust'. Using the edge of the fondant smoother with the VIVA towel against the cake, make dents in the buttercream at different places to mimic fabric creases/folds.
Spray the football jersey cake with Wilton edible food color spray alternating blue and black to achieve the navy color. Let it dry completely before decorating. Clean cake board to remove the over spray from coloring the jersey.
Color fondant with Wilton orange paste color and roll out to 1/8" thickness long enough to go around the sleeve and cut a 1" strip and place on sleeve. Next cut 1/4" strips and put on either side of the orange stripes.
Use alphabet cutters to cut name for back of jersey and place in center. Use a paper template for the number and cut from fondant. Place under name on jersey.
Cut the 'Happy Birthday' message and other words from orange fondant and secure to board using water. Finish the edge of the cake board with a coordinating ribbon.
6 quart mixer
3 lbs. of hi-ration shortening
