Ghoulish Cake

For this Halloween cake, you'll need:

  • 2 boxes of any flavor cake mix (prepare as stated on the package box)
  • 2 containers of vanilla frosting
  • Can of black decorating frosting
  • Food coloring
  • Food decorating gel
  • Some candy fingers, eyeballs, and skull bones (or whatever ghoulish candy you'd like)

Fill two 9inch cake pans (I like Wilton), each pan should take 1 box of cake mix. Bake as directed on cake boxes (may take a little longer as the pans are deeper than average cake pans).

Allow cakes to cool. Once they are cool, remove and put on cake sheet and put in freezer for about 2 hours. (Cakes are easier to frost frozen.)

Take vanilla frosting and add green food coloring to make main frosting color. Frost the cake, and put back in the freezer for about 1 hour.

Remove cake from the freezer and add black detail on edges. Use cake gel to make squiggly lines. Apply candy decorations.

I leave the cake in the refrigerator so it stays fresh. Happy baking!

Halloween Princess Castle

This was for my daughter's 6th birthday party, and she wanted Halloween and princess theme.

I used 2 boxed cake mixes. The bottom was made in a 9 x13" cake pan and trimmed to size. The top was made with two 6" round cake pans. Both were iced with regular buttercream frosting. The fondant was marshmallow fondant with food coloring.

I made the towers from paper towel rolls, and placed fondant over them. I also used fondant for the windows. The top of the towers were ice cream cones frosted and rolled in colored sugar. The white ghosts were Peeps held with toothpicks.

I used the candy corn pumpkins for a pumpkin patch. The "grass" border was green Twizzlers. I trimmed the layers with M&Ms. The door, sidewalk, and the banner were all fondant.

I bought a small princess and placed her in the front of the castle. The small ghost and pumpkin men were toys that had parachutes on them. (I just cut the parachutes and the loop to hold them off.)

This cake was a hit, and I was so glad that my daughter loved it.
