Cake submitted by Pam L. from Lannon, WI
My niece and her best friend have birthdays on April 1st and April 2nd respectively. They like to wear clothes with peace signs on. So I decided to make a cake and decorate it with peace signs.
I made a marble cake from a cake mix. I filled it with homemade buttercream frosting, and used the rest of the frosting on the top of the cake.
A little tip I learned is to take a piece of thread long enough to go around the whole cake. And then just line it up by eye to the center of the cake.
Pull both ends of the thread towards you through the cake until they meet. This is how to get a clean cut so you can fill the cake.
Always keep the filling at least 1 inch inside the edge of the cake, so it doesn't ooze out the sides.
I decorated my cake by adding food coloring to the white buttercream frosting. (I use Wilton's frosting because their colors are more vibrant.)
I frosted the cake in all differently colored peace signs. Then added mini M&Ms for the details.
Both girls loved the cake!
