Cake submitted by Jill L. from Yucaipa, CA

The cake bottom is a two layers 14" round white cake with strawberry filling. The top layer is a 10" white cake sliced in half with strawberry filling. The frosting is all homemade buttercream icing. I used a boxed cake mix and a filling from the local cake store.
I colored white fondant, and used a fondant striping tool to cut out all the stripes. I used a large pastry tip to cut out the dots.
The skull on the top was the graphic I was given to make the cake from. I dissected the image and made patterns of each piece.
I then rolled out white, dark pink and black fondant, and traced the patterns. I used clear vanilla extract to glue them together.
The heart pops sticking out of the cake are rolled fondant cut with heart shaped fondant cutters. I used Wilton candy sticks and clear vanilla to glue them together. The shine on them was made by brushing edible glitter on each heart.
