Tom and Jerry Cake
(Dhahran, Saudi Arabia)
I made this Tom and Jerry cake for a little girl named Teresa who I also made a cake for when she turned 3 years old! This was such an honor and a privilege! I love being part of family occasions for years.
I got the idea for this cake off the internet. The idea was simply to make the cake look like a pool or a tub filled with M&Ms. And then just put Tom & Jerry inside the tub.
I started off by making a small 6 inch chocolate cake layered with vanilla buttercream. I covered the cake in light blue fondant and added a rim on the top to make it look like an actual tub.
I filled the opening on to with M&Ms. I then added Tom and Jerry which I had made a few days beforehand out of fondant. (I decided to make them well in advance to allow some time for them to dry.)
I used a picture of Tom and Jerry to help with moulding them. I went slowly when I was designing them out of fondant. I wanted to make them look as realistic as possible, I tried to pay attention to every single detail. They were so much fun to make!
I added a strip of pink fondant at the bottom of the cake and attached a fondant bow. I cut out the letters and the number and attached them on the cake as well. That was a great personal touch.
The little girl loved her cake! And I was so happy she did.
